Introduzione

La Nasa Space Apps Challenge è un hackathon che si svolge in simultanea in più di 200 città del mondo, con l'obiettivo di contribuire a sviluppare in maniera collaborativa delle soluzioni innovative per alcuni problemi globali, producendo risultati opensource che rispondano a sfide importanti per la vita nello spazio e sulla Terra.

L'evento di Trieste è organizzato ed ospitato dal Centro Internazionale di Fisica Teorica Abdus Salam (ICTP) con il patrocinio e supporto del Consolato Generale degli Stati Uniti d'America di Milano e il patrocinio del Comune di Trieste, dell'Università degli Studi Trieste e di ProESOF.

Nasa Space Apps Challenge is a hackathon happening simultaneously in over 200 cities all over the world, organized with the goal to help collaboratively develop innovative solutions for global problems by producing open-source results to challenges that are relevant to both life on Earth and in space.

The Trieste event is organized and hosted by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) with the patronage and sponsorship of the United States Consulate General of Milan and the Patronage of the Municipality (Comune di Trieste), University of Trieste and ProESOF.

COME PARTECIPARE / TO PARTICIPATE

La partecipazione, completamente gratuita, è aperta a tutti gli appassionati maggiorenni di qualsiasi background e nazionalità. L’evento inizia la mattina di Sabato 20 Ottobre alle ore 8:30 e si conclude il pomeriggio di Domenica 21 Ottobre alle ore 18:00. Si terrà presso la foresteria "Hotel Adriatico" dell'ICTP, nella baia di Grignano (Trieste). Il numero massimo di partecipanti ammesso è di 60, e siamo già attorno a quota 30 iscritti, perciò affrettati e non perdere questa occasione!

Participation is completely free and open to all enthusiasts older than 18, no matter their background or nationality. The event starts Saturday morning at 8:30 AM and ends Sunday afternoon at 6:00 PM. the venue will be the ICTP "Adriatico" Guesthouse in the bay of Grignano (Trieste). The maximum number of participants is set to 60, and there are already 30 registrations, so hurry up and don't lose your chance!

TEAM

Potrai reclutare il tuo team in anticipo oppure unirti ad altri partecipanti la mattina stessa dell'iscrizione. Tutti i partecipanti dovranno iscriversi individualmente su questo sito (già da subito!) per poter partecipare, come singoli o in un team! Tu (o il tuo team) dovrai scegliere (la mattina del sabato) una challenge tra quelle già ora disponibili sulla pagina web 2018.spaceappschallenge.org/challenges (e se vuoi puoi anche vedere quelle dello scorso anno, e studiare quelle che hanno vinto in passato). Sarà inoltre necessario che almeno una persona del tuo team abbia una buona conoscenza dell’inglese, poiché sarà la lingua in cui saranno pubblicate tutte le informazioni sulle challenge e che potrà anche essere usata domenica pomeriggio per la presentazione finale del progetto, in alternativa all'italiano.

You can create your team in advance or you can team up with other participants on the morning of the event. All participants will have to register individually on this website (staring from now!) in order to be able to participate, as individuals or in a team! You (or your team) will need to choose (on Saturday morning) a challenge among the ones already available at 2018.spaceappschallenge.org/challenges (and you can study the 2017 challenges, to be inspired by the past winner). All relevant information about the event will be available only in English, and the final pitch (presentation of your project to the Jury) can be done in English or Italian.

INFORMAZIONI GENERALI / GENERAL INFORMATION

Non dimenticare di portare il tuo laptop e/o tablet, tutti gli alimentatori necessari, una prolunga elettrica a prese multiple per il tuo team, e qualsiasi altro materiale ritieni necessario.

L'organizzazione metterà anche a disposizione alcune risorse del Fablab ICTP, come stampanti 3D, lasercutter, stazioni di saldatura elettronica e una scelta di strumenti di misura, componenti elettronici, microcontrollori Arduino, sensori ed attuatori, nel caso qualcuno volesse sviluppare dei prototipi hardware.

Dal pranzo di Sabato al pranzo di Domenica, tutti i pasti a buffet verranno offerti dall'organizzazione.

Se vuoi potrai fermarti a lavorare durante tutta la notte, la sala dell'hackathon sarà sempre aperta ed accessibile e a ogni team sarà inoltre assegnata gratuitamente una stanza con due posti letto e bagno/doccia ai piani sovrastanti (dalle 14 del Sabato fino alle 10 di Domenica).

Don't forget to bring your own laptop and/or tablet, all power supplies you may need, a power strip with multiple sockets for your team, and anything else you might need.

You will have also access to some of the facilities of the ICTP Fablab, like 3D printers, lasercutter, electronic soldering stations and instruments, components, Arduino micro controllers, sensors and actuators, to do hardware prototyping.

All meals are offered by the organizers, from Saturday’s lunch to Sunday’s lunch.

If you want, it will be possible to work all night long in the hackathon room, but in case you need a short nap there will be a guesthouse's room with two beds and a bathroom available free of charge for each team, from 2 PM of Saturday until 10 AM of Sunday.

PREMI / PRIZES

Affinché un progetto sia accettato per il giudizio locale e globale e possa competere per i corrispettivi premi, deve essere inserito nel sito web della Space Apps Challenge con una propria pagina "Project Page" che deve contenere i link alle risorse originali, come l'archivio del codice sorgente o dei disegni schematici dell'hardware.

Saranno giudicati solo i progetti che sono rilasciati con una licenza di tipo Open Source presente fra quelle elencate sul sito della Open Source Initiative: http://opensource.org/licenses/alphabetical.

Premi locali: grazie al generoso contributo del Consolato generale degli Stati Uniti, Milano, i tre team che saranno giudicati i migliori dalla giuria locale riceveranno dei premi in denaro:

♣ primo classificato: € 1.300,00 VINCITORE: team Unusual Rovers (Luca Baruzzo, Emanuele Santellani)

♣ secondo classificato: € 1.000,00 VINCITORE: team Sylar (Roberta Roberto, Federico Godini)

♣ terzo classificato: € 700,00 VINCITORE: team TeamON (Lara Cappelletto, Laura Duò, Pietro Grego, Deyan Koba, Chiara Mastromarino, Filippo Tecchiati, Marta Zanini, Nicolò Zago)

La nostra Giuria locale nominerà anche due progetti candidati per il processo di selezione globale. Per poter accedere a tale selezione, ad ogni team prescelto sarà dato lo stesso tempo (5- 7 giorni) per creare un video di 30 secondi di presentazione del progetto. Il processo di selezione globale sarà gestito dalla NASA. I finalisti per i premi internazionali saranno annunciati 4-6 settimane dopo l'evento, e la NASA proclamerà i vincitori a Gennaio 2019.

Premi globali: La Giuria Internazionale della Space Apps Challenge assegnerà un premio per ognuna di queste 5 categorie, dopo aver valutato tutti i progetti che sono stati selezionati dalle giurie locali:

1) Best Use of Hardware.

2) Best Mission Concept.

3) Most Inspirational.

4) Galactic Impact.

5) Best Use of Data.

La Giuria Internazionale selezionerà anche un numero di progetti candidati per il People's Choice Award. Il vincitore del People’s Choice Award verrà scelto attraverso una votazione popolare globale: -chiunque, da ogni parte del mondo, potrà votare il progetto che riterrà migliore.

I vincitori riceveranno un invito dalla NASA per tutti membri del team per partecipare ad un lancio spaziale, in una data ancora da determinare. Il costo del viaggio non è incluso.

In order for a project to receive a local or global award and be eligible for local and global judging, it must be submitted to the Space Apps Challenge website via a Project Page. The Project Page must include links to the original resources, such as a source code repository or hardware schematics.

Solutions will only be accepted for judging if they are licensed under an Open Source License as determined by the Open Source Initiative: http://opensource.org/licenses/alphabetical.

Local awards: courtesy of the United States Consulate of Milan, the three teams that will achieve the highest scores by the judges will be awarded with a cash prize:

Our Local Jury will also nominate two teams/solutions for consideration in the global judging process. In order to be considered for global judging, every nominated team will be given the same amount of time (5- 7 days) to create a 30-second video describing their project. The global judging process is managed by NASA. Finalists for global awards will be announced four to six weeks after the event, and NASA will announce the winners in January, 2019.

Global awards: Space Apps Global Judges will make a selection among all projects awarded by the local Juries, and issue one award for 5 separate categories:

1) Best Use of Hardware.

2) Best Mission Concept.

3) Most Inspirational.

4) Galactic Impact.

5) Best Use of Data.

The Judges will also nominate a number of projects to be considered for the People's Choice Award. The winner of the People’s Choice Award is selected by a global popular vote-anyone, from anywhere, can vote on the project they believe best suited to receive the award.

Winners will be receive an invitation for all team members to attend a NASA launch (the dates have not yet been set). Cost of travel to the launch is not included.

  1. Cerimonia Ufficiale di Premiazione dei team vincenti

    La consegna dei premi si terrà con una cerimonia pubblica presso il Palazzo della Regione in Piazza Unità a Trieste, dalle 12:00 alle 13:00, alla presenza delle massime autorità regionali e comunali, degli organizzatori e delle istituzioni partner (Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia, Comune di Trieste, Ambasciata degli Stati Uniti d'America, Università degli Studi di Trieste, ProESOF), della stampa e dei media.
