The Challenge | Spot That Fire!

Build a crowdsourcing tool for citizens to contribute to early detection, verification, tracking, visualization, and notification of wildfires.

FireBot

FireBot is a self-energy supply based device that can spot, track and notificate wildfires.

IMElab

FireBot has been developed with a view to enhancing and simplifying wildfires detection. The device is directed at Forestry Services, which should section the whole forest territory and install one device per section. In this way, when an alarm is displayed on the server, the forester and fire department can easily detect where the endangered area is.

The device collects temperature data every 30 seconds and stores them locally. In case a fire is started, the device would detect a peak and send the information to an external nearby server. The information is then sent to an instant messaging service, via Telegram Bot, and notificated to nearby inhabitants registered to the service. Meanwhile, a pre-alert is sent to nearby firehouses. Citizenry could interact with the Bot to verify the information. A pre-alert would be transferred to firehouses in any case of device activation.

Once a day, the device measures temperature and humidity and sends these data to the server: the procedure helps forester know the device is functioning and whole woodland area is covered.
