I've just posted some examples of the reprojected and reformatted map layers that I get out of the code I finished today.
Since the weekend finished I've been trying to get a reliable pathway for fetching and transforming data from various NASA map based data resources, like the layers WorldView fetches from GIBS (the Global Imagery Browse Services). We were able to get by during the weekend with a quick fix, but if we wanted to push this project further in the future we need a solution that takes better advantage of GIS standards. Earlier today I finally got all the libraries compiled and got a rough, but reliable process based on the OSGeo, GDAL & Proj4 libraries and was able to grab map layers from GIBS by name. First stop GIBS, next stop any Web Map Tile Service (WMTS) and Tiled Web Map Service (TWMS) server you want!
