Space Apps Challenge 2018

GreenSpot is a platform for both users who wish to know the percentage of plants (green) in a certain area and for users who wish to take photos of plants. The application has a map view so that people would know where they can look for plants as well as be aware of the level of forestation their area is experiencing as well as to asses the general healthiness and cleanliness of an area.

In addition, the photos of plants captured by the application's camera will identify the plant pictured, give information about it and geo-tag the location where the photo was taken. The team will utilize the geo-tagged locations as crowd-sourced data and will use NASA's global maps of plant fluorescence to determine the percentage of "greenness" in a certain area.

The platform caters to 2 types of users: those who want to make use of the app's plant identification features to contribute to the app's knowledge base and those who want to use the knowledge base to identify the "greenness" of a certain location. Understanding the percentage of land area where active vegetation occurs can help people in taking healthier alternatives when exercising or in choosing a place to live. Businesses can also use the platform in promoting residential projects and tourist attractions.

In summary, this application aims to help users understand the world we are living in and spread more awareness of the importance of plants and living organisms for the welfare of the planet.
