We had finished our first discussion and are having lunch at the moment ( proudly sponsored by Red Hat labs). As of now, we have ironed out our approach towards our challenge: "Don't Forget the Can Opener!".

A brief summary of the challenge we are tackling is that we are tasked to design way for people to prepare their own checklists to tackle different kinds of disasters. As of now we have decided to go along the idea of an mobile-based application that aids people in data collection to predict possible disasters ahead of time and guide them towards creating checklists and possible actions to take.

We have narrowed our target market down to 5 different scenarios:

  1. People who are researching on which country to go to for holidays
  2. People who have already booked transportation to their desired country for holiday and have just recently received news regarding natural disasters in desired country
  3. People who are already in desired country and received alerts and announcements about impending natural disasters (locals of country fall into this category as well)
  4. People who didn't receive the alerts (due to various reasons such as lack of internet) and have to act on the spot when the natural disaster hits
  5. People who survived the natural disaster and require aid or assistance in any form

With these 5 scenarios, we are targeting people throughout all phases of a natural disaster event; from before the disaster event, during the disaster event and after the disaster event, people will be able to utilize our application throughout as a form of guidance to preparation and actions.
