The Challenge | Virtual Space Exploration
SpaceTrek
Space Trek is a mobile application that allows users to explore the Moon through augmented reality. It creates an AR portal to the virtual Moon environment which allows users to explore and learn about the moon and other lunar mission that has happened.
We worked on generating Virtual Experience for the surface of the Moon! By Obtaining 3D models from NASA resources, such as Moon Trek.
The technology we have used is Augmented Reality.
Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology enriching the real world with digital information and media, such as 3D models and videos, overlaying in real-time, using the camera view of your smartphone, tablet, PC or connected glasses. We have not considered using Virtual Reality because of the harmful effects it has on the human body, like straining of eyes and headache on a longer period of use and to enjoy Virtual reality we require VR glasses to experience .
The users of this app can get to experience the lunar surface and explore and learn about every lunar mission that has happened on the lunar surface. Our main goal is to educate the students and to give an opportunity to learn about the space in a fun and interactive way.
The scalability of this project. is that it can be applied to every planet in the solar system, and to stimulate a planetary environment to test the design of the rover, thus cutting down hefty costs of creating a test environment.
Our vision is to build interaction within the lunar environment and enable support to other AR devices like Microsoft Hololens
