The Challenge | Health Makes Wealth

Integrate NASA Earth science data and citizen science data to learn more about the connections between human, animal, and environmental health.

Using data from the CSA, CDC, NASA and citizens like you to provide localized answers to the questions: is it safe to go outside? is it safe to stay inside?

We integrate data from the CSA, CDC, NASA and citizen-provided IOT-enabled data collection stations. This combined data provides more accurate and localized information concerning air quality (is it safe to go outside without a mask or a radiation suit) and extreme weather events (is it safe to stay inside or is it time to head for a storm shelter).

We created a front-end that displays the combined data in an easy to understand format. This data can be used to help predict trends that public policy makers can use to inform their decisions regarding the environment and changing weather patterns. This data can also be used by individuals to inform their travel and relocation decisions.

We created an IOT-enabled data collection station using an Arduino UNO with a WIFI shield and a variety of inexpensive sensors. A hobbyist maker can produce one of these for under $50. These can be used in schools to help teach STEM and environmental awareness.
