The Challenge | Don’t Forget the Can Opener!

Create an easy-to-use way for people to develop their own, custom checklists – both items and plans – for specific kinds of disasters. Use NASA images, videos, or data visualizations to illustrate each disaster type, to help people understand how to prepare.

TideView

TideView helps commuters and drivers alike make smart decisions in navigating flood-stricken areas with real time updates and historic data

Flooding is becoming an increasing concern, given the onset of climate change brought about by accelerated global warming, especially in low-lying areas and third-world countries. Although actions are called for around the globe in an effort to mitigate the long-term impacts of global warming, the start of its onslaught is inescapable.

The Uroboros team is built by dreamers and individuals who want to remove the burden of navigating through flood-stricken areas, given that the team has hailed from a place where flooding is commonplace and expected from the lightest of rainfall.

TideView, the team's brainchild, is an app that combines navigation and forecast to provide insight regarding what to expect with regards to flooding in a user's location or a location of interest.

Furthermore, TideView's main features are:

  • Navigation and outlook. Integrating GPS tracking and real-time weather models.
  • Prediction. Comparing current and historical data to create accurate predictions with regards to flooding in a place.
  • Safety. In the event that the app expects flooding in the user's area, it will send precautionary measures and safe places for a person to evacuate; or if in travel, the app will also help the user to go around flooded areas.
