The Challenge | Don’t Forget the Can Opener!

Create an easy-to-use way for people to develop their own, custom checklists – both items and plans – for specific kinds of disasters. Use NASA images, videos, or data visualizations to illustrate each disaster type, to help people understand how to prepare.

Typhoons and earthquakes are coming; are you ready? Many people would say "of course!", but we all know the aftermath of such events.

Currently, there are 3 major issues with educating the masses. First, many PSAs use overly-complicated vocabulary, causing unnecessary confusion. Second, there is too much information, making it harder instead of easier to learn about such topics. Finally, students are the majority target, and many adults don't come in contact with new information.

We came to a confusion: It's very likely that you are NOT ready for natural disasters.

Because of this, we decided to change the situation. We want to make these information easier to learn, and help people customize emergency kits for their needs.

So, how will we reach this goal?

We decided to use an APP and website to provide our service, allowing users to explore the effects of natural disasters and help them create an emergency kit best suited for their needs.
We hope this plan would achieve these objectives: Flexibility, viability, ubiquity, and accessibility.
