Awards & Nominations

Space Squad has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!

Global Nominee

The Challenge | On the Shoulders of Giants

Create a game using images from the Hubble Space Telescope as integral components!

Space Trumps

Using Data Sets from the Hubble satellites and the Kepler space observatory , we developed a game to stimulate learning about the planets through multiplayer competitions.

You've probably played this game...

TOP TRUMPS!

Space Trumps, is based on Top Trumps. Basically, the game is based on comparing the values of your card with other players. For your card to win, the feature must be more or less valued (in some cases).

The values on cards are attributes of planets who existing on Kepler and Hubble data. Each player select an attribute to start a duel, we show to them who won based on item picked.

The attributes have a short descripton, to help player understand each one.

Here, we have a short explanation of the attributes. Check below:

Radius: It is the distance from the planets center to its surface;

Flux: Stellar flux is the energy of radiation emitted by the star passing every second through a unit area;

K: It is a theoretical temperature that a planet would be at when considered simply as if it were a black body being heated only by its parent star. Kelvin(K) Temperature;

Period: It is the observed time for an exoplanet to complete one revolution around its host star;

Distance: It is the distance (in light years) between the planet and Earth

For example, using Kepler and Hubble together, Kepler-22b is located in the constellation Cygnus. The Hubble has data on this constellation

An exemple of application of the game is help students understand how Kepler and Hubble works and show to them how important is the study of space using efficient methods like gamification, estimuling competition and the correctly use of smartphones in a class.

Technologies used: NodeJS, Socket.io, Ionic 3.
