Do it yourself (DIY) telescope project with interactive game for discovering astronomical objects such are stars, planets, galaxy and similar.
Telescope can be created using parts bought online or at local store and used for discovering astronomical objects during the night. It’s very simple to create, and perfect as a family project do it with you kids.
Parts you need:
- Concave mirror
- Flat mirror
- Styrodur
- Some aluminium profiles or wood pieces
You can then mount the webcam on a telescope, part of the sky can be recorded and uploaded to the web platform where objects can be identified via Astrometry.net API. After objects are detected, detailed information about them along with some images are provided using HubbleSite API and displayed to a user.
Using web platform, users get points for each discovery competing with their friends and family. More discoveries you made, more points you get.
Another version of the telescope, which is for advanced users, can be developed and that version includes motorized telescope, for the panoramic shooting of a sky, GPS, compass, and gyroscope for the exact location of it.
You can then provide a VOICE command to the telescope to get a location of the desired object on a sky.
