The Challenge | On the Shoulders of Giants

Create a game using images from the Hubble Space Telescope as integral components!

Hubble Space Race

Hubble Space Race game is designed to educate players about space and to inspire the next generation. No matter how messy things get on Earth, they can always look to the beauty of the stars to solve Earth's hard problems.

THE MOTIVATION

The Hubble Telescope is an incredible piece of technology that gives us insight into the beauty and vastness of the universe. As our team was viewing the images, we immediately recognized their beauty. However, we found ourselves wanting to know more about the images. This sparked the idea to create an educational game for children and adults alike to teach them about the Hubble, the images, space exploration, and the universe.

THE GAME

The Hubble Space Race is designed to educate players about space and to inspire the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and space explorers. Hubble Space Race is an online game allowing 2-6 players to login and join a game. Players will race against each other, answering questions that take them farther and farther into space. Players will stop along the way to learn about places the Hubble has photographed. Players are encouraged to pay attention to the information along the way because they'll be asked about it in the bonus rounds. The first player to answer enough questions to get to 30 points wins the game.

THE FUTURE

Our team has already identified additional features of the game that we intend to incorporate

1. Interactive map with animations of your vehicle moving to the different locations during game play.

2. Create an exploration mode where you can move freely about the map and learn more

3. More sophisticated vehicles with features to choose from

4. Increase the bank of questions and categorize by difficulty to tailor the game to different age ranges.

5. Add additional images from the Hubble and increase the number of "stops" or locations on the map.
