The nebula was discovered by the Spitzer Space Telescope. Apparently this nebula is 80 light-years in length, and is 300 light-years away from the possible supermassive black hole in the center of the galaxy, 25,000 light-years from Earth.
The importance of this image to me is how we can perceive that everything around us is intertwined. Its shape reminds us of a Dna and shows how we can still be surprised about the formation of our vast universe. I would put the image on the ceiling of my room so that every time I could sleep, I could look back to remember how there are still new things to discover.
The Double Helix Nebula (also known as the DNA Nebula due to its shape) is a diffuse nebula near the center of our galaxy.
