Global Nominee

The Challenge | Polar Quest

Design a quest-like game to teach others about polar environments and how they are changing. Use NASA data to help adventurers plan their quest and present them with challenges along the way.

Polar Express

It's a 3D simulator which is designed to serve educational purposes. The main goal of the game is to teach it's users how to prepare for a safe and sound trip to the Arctic circle.

PolariS

We used the NSIDC DAAC information sets to gather information on the arctic climate, most recent available data sets on ice and snow in the arctic circle and global temperature projections, all in order to create a more realistic model for our game. Furthermore we used NASA provided imagery from the NASA Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) combined with the NASA Virtual Earth System Labaratory and Google's "Google Earth" software to explore the region discussed.
Lastly, we researched information that was later inputted in the game and was aimed to provide educational materials in accordance with the given suggestions at Polar Quest web-site.
