Overview:

We designed an autonomous robot by merging three technologies to come up with a unique solution:

  • Gecko gripping (design by nature)
  • conveyor belt (like a tank)
  • reconfigurable wheel (DARPA solution)

This device is designed to screen the surface of the shuttle, to identify holes/cracks and report back the impacted area with high resolution images and full details on the damage. We have utilized the farmer plowing approach to scan for damage.

Challenges Faced:

  • Finding the best wheel design.
  • avigating over different surfaces and overcoming obstacles without getting detached from the surface and getting lost in space.
  • Choosing the right sensor to find details of the impact (size, depth and angle).
