Death clock
Death clock shows the impact of water usage on population
Background
Many people think of water as a given. They turn on the tap and expect fresh water to come out. However, this is not the case for many places in the world, like Cape Town — that has unfortunately experienced that quite recently. The city has almost run out of water, in fact the day zero was scheduled for 2018. Fortunately, the citizens have decided to cut down on their water usage, which allowed the government to postpone the day zero indefinitely.
Resources
We used the AQUASTAT Database to gather information about total available water per country and combined them with census data from United Nations to create an accurate approximation of future water usage if the citizen habits did not change. We also scourged the internet for the information about water required to produce common products.
Overview
All combined, we present a grim future of the world. We show when a country will die. However, we also let people change — by tinkering with sliders, you will effectively save lives!
