The Challenge | Spot That Fire!

Build a crowdsourcing tool for citizens to contribute to early detection, verification, tracking, visualization, and notification of wildfires.

SpotFire

An AI that collect data from a visual recognition API and recognizes wildfire and determines the best course of action for the fire department.

The Jackson's Fire

Forest fires have always been great problems, even with so many technological advances, to prevent, control and know the magnitude of these events, have caused us great deficits, being they financial, lives and wildlife. In conversation with a firefighter with experience in these types of fires, we were informed that every call is validated by a series of questions and depends, basically, on the human factor to validate if it is not a prank call. And before they travel to the place, they send vehicles or even motorbikes for visual confirmation. This process, in addition to being ineffective in most cases, ends up delaying the response time of the fire department. Our proposal is to maintain constant vigilance in areas that are conducive to this type of occurrence. We will do via drones to monitor these areas real-time and so, if any of the sensors (smoke or fire) point to any abnormality in the monitored environment, the data will be pre-evaluated by the drone itself and if they are valid, they will be sent to an API more suitable for validation. The nearest prepared fire department will be informed as soon as there is a fire confirmation, they will be informed with the data collected by the drone. The data that the drones will initially provide will be:

- Exact location of the fire;
- Possible outbreaks;
- Time of the sent data;
- Approximate area of fire spread (*)

One of our objectives is to map, together with the location of the fire, possible winding sites, considering wind, slopes, biomes and other determining factors that spread the fire. With the help of the drones, we will draw an approximate area of the central focus and calculate how fast it can spread , so firefighters can go to more specific points, and with more information.
