The Challenge | Spot That Fire!

Build a crowdsourcing tool for citizens to contribute to early detection, verification, tracking, visualization, and notification of wildfires.

Fire Protection

It is an app and has as purpose the prevention and denunciations, in real time, of forest fires. Given that the biggest problem when dealing with forest fires is the time from the local commotion to the action of the authorities.

R.O.F - Researchers of the future

The problem proposed to us was the Spot That Fire, which addresses the construction of a form of crowdsourcing, that is, a direct initiative of citizens for forest fire prevention and detection.

With this, we have developed Fire Protection that will provide a security protection due to the agility in the detection of accidents that facilitate a situation of escape and can help the agility of attendance so that the fire does not have bigger occurrences bringing an opportunity of specification and the promotion of knowledge on the subject, orientation and expansion of civil conscience, and in the future, through the creation of a database through NASA satellites with data entered by users, with the objective of establishing an alternative method for the conventional use of several steps for examining the fire focus, thereby increasing the speed of investigation of the case.

What does that solve? Initially it resolves an agility in the detection of possible fires, since it contains the data sent by the users in real time and its verification through the images, location and a process that is validating like information.

How does it work? For the development of Apps we use the B4A (Basic for Android) tool that contains a language of its own. We use free APIs provided on the network for the synchronization of information captured by the App (such as location and weather of the place).

Initially the application is not for profit, because of this we would partner with governments to lease the application and distribute it to people living in high-risk areas, ensuring the support and maintenance that the application requires.

In the future, with statistical data stored in our database and connected to NASA satellites, we would be able to predict fires, not only at a forest level, allowing our services to be hired by private companies that need to protect and monitor certain areas, such as companies that working with pulp, companies that need to protect a certain area due to carbon money and in Brazil this would apply to sawing and sugar cane areas where burning is prohibited.
