The Challenge | Don’t Forget the Can Opener!

Create an easy-to-use way for people to develop their own, custom checklists – both items and plans – for specific kinds of disasters. Use NASA images, videos, or data visualizations to illustrate each disaster type, to help people understand how to prepare.

Using the app, the user will know the needed items to include in each kit to deal with different disasters, have access to tutorial videos to know how to deal in such situations, and be connected with his family members to know if someone is safe or not.

i Survive

Our team built a mobile application to help people allover the world to survive in the midst of natural disasters. It tells them what to do, using videos that inform the user with data about the type of disaster they maybe facing and tutorials of how to deal with such a catastrophe. The app will also inform the user of what kind of items to take, providing a feature of checklist that the user can exploit to make sure that he has what he needs. Last but not least, the app can notify its users when their family members are in danger.
We used android studio for building the app, the videos provided by the youtube channel called Skima English, photoshop and premiere for the videos and designs. We used the website 000webhost to save the data of the family members on its databases.
We faced some challenges with asking for permission for internet connection inside the app, a lot of bugs also appeared with the webhosting website, but we managed to overcome these challenges by changing the codes and the method, by which the app is connected to the internet.
