Designing an Electro-Magnetic Sensor for sensing the Martian surface and to save time and Energy of the Rover.

ANTARIKSH...!

We are students pursuing M.Sc in Electronics at Queens University,Belfast,Northern Ireland. Our challenge 'Make Sense out of Mars',in which we basically need to design a sensor which can help the robots or the humans for the future Mars mission's.We used the resources from the google and the NASA's open Data.We already know that the Rover the Robot designed by NASA is on the Mars, but the speed of the Rover is very slow and it can cover very small distance in very large amount of time. Keeping this in mind we proceed to efficiently use the energy and time of the Rover. We are using the Electromagnetic waves as sensor because of its own property of reflection and property that Electromagnetic waves behave dynamically with different elements. The EM waves Radiation is spread across the Martian surface and the reflected EM waves are used for the spectrum analysis. The study of the spectrum actually helps us to realize how the different elements reacted and we can probably choose the direction for the rover as where the elements of life show up.By knowing the direction we can choose to use LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) to find the distance from where the radiation carrying the information of life elements and we can actually move the robot towards that spot for further studies with other sensors.
