The Challenge | Make Sense Out of Mars

Develop a sensor to be used by humans on Mars.

The Conception of Martian Green Lab

Martian Green Lab will tackle the problem of synthesizing oxygen, producing nutritious food, and growing crops on Mars using a unique variety of algae.

A-Cell Lab

Colonizing Mars is a challenging task because, among other things, Mars' atmosphere does not have a sufficient level of oxygen to sustain a human life. Hence, the need for efficient and consistent source of oxygen is the challenge our team attempt to solve.

Algae makes up a simple, yet highly functional solution capable of not only producing sufficient amounts of oxygen but also has the potential for numerous other uses:

  • synthesizing oxygen
  • generating biomass
  • recycling of CO2
  • fertilizing crops
  • producing biofuel.

Our team attempts to create a conception of Martian green lab utilizing the unique potential of this simple microorganism.
