Space Apps 2018 Global Winners Announced

I am delighted to share with you the news that the global winners of NASA’s 2018 International Space Apps Challenge have been selected and announced. Congratulations to our Global Award winners! If you haven’t already done so, look here to see the list. After an incredible Space Apps weekend in which nearly 18,000 participants participated, 1,395 winning teams from local events worldwide submitted their projects for global judging.

It was extraordinarily difficult to winnow the list down to just six (one award in each category – Best Use of Data; Best Use of Hardware; Best Mission Concept; Galactic Impact; Most Inspirational; and Best Use of Science). The quality of all of the projects was astonishingly high, and we are delighted and honored that so many of you came together in teams around the world to respond to the challenges that we posed. You thought deeply and worked hard to produce solutions that use NASA data across an astonishingly wide range of problems, from deep space exploration to solving real and immediate problems here on Earth.

I want to thank every one of you who participated, and to encourage you to continue your work – in the best tradition of space explorers, you can go far! I also want to take this opportunity to extend a huge thanks to the many talented and dedicated local hosts and volunteers who worked to make Space Apps 2018 such a huge success.

No matter your field of study or area of expertise, your ideas and the commitment and talent you revealed in Space Apps can help to make a better future, and to improve the quality of life on Earth. NASA’s space probes and satellites travel to space, but new ways to use NASA’s data and discoveries leap from your hearts and minds, wherever you are, right here on Earth. It all begins with you.

Thank you all. I hope to see you all again next year, at Space Apps 2019!
