Chacareros has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!

Local Peoples' Choice Winner

The Challenge | Don’t Forget the Can Opener!

Create an easy-to-use way for people to develop their own, custom checklists – both items and plans – for specific kinds of disasters. Use NASA images, videos, or data visualizations to illustrate each disaster type, to help people understand how to prepare.

SAR-App

An application that will help you to be ready to face situations in which your life is in danger. It will join individual persons or family/neighborhood groups, keeping them informed and guiding them depending on their current geographic location.

Chacareros

Initial observations:

  • In the world more than eighty thousand people die every year, and nearly one hundred thousand are disappeared due to natural catastrophes.

History of the Group

  • We are a team of young people between 17 and 18 years of secondary school, we form the team based on our dedications and tastes on a subject trying to make a multidisciplinary team. Due to our limited programming knowledge, we use the APP INNVENTOR application to develop the application since it is a basic platform for programming apps from blocks.

Analysis:

  • How can we help people?
  • Is there an application that contains what is necessary to survive all types of natural hazard?
  • Is it necessary to use the internet in these?
  • When there is a catastrophe, are people organized?

Arguments:

  • -With the FEMA data we collect concepts of catastrophes and how to survive in these
  • -The data of the NASA allowed us to obtain images and very useful information to show the people how to survive.
  • Data center and socio-economic applications (sedac) of NASA http://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/data/collection/n...
  • -Satellite images allow us to find areas more prone to each catastrophe, and thus classify them
  • -The data collected from NASA and FEMA was incorporated into the SAR.App application
  • With the http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ we create an application that organizes the needs and can tell you what to do and when you are in a dangerous situation. This application collects the data entered by the user at the beginning and analyzes it by the amount of resources you need, the tools of use and how to act on your location, family and personal data.
  • We decided to add a section in which people can apply 3d printing since we believe that in the very near future all people will have access to one. And in this way download and share elements to be used in case of catastrophe, in this way creating a community that provides mutual survival tools.

Future perspectives::

  • Create a community prepared and trained in case of a natural catatastrophe. Develop a notification that alerts us to a possible cause by analyzing the data of NASA's satellites.
  • Complete upload to the application all the information collected from the data of NASA and other platforms.+Specify the analysis of the data granted to the user for his analysis.
