The Challenge | Remix The Golden Record

Develop a concept for a time capsule with content to educate an extraterrestrial civilization about human culture and our solar system.

FA3E

FA3E's goal is to find a way in which we will be able to educate another advanced civilization in the universe. We are trying to develop a way of doing this by using the Golden Record and the Arecibo Message as reference points.

Knowing what the Golden Record and the Arecibo Message contain and using them as a reference points, we decided to design a content that will be easier to understand and in the same time more sophisticated. Unlike the both of the above mentioned, we decided to include extra information, like: the golden ratio, the human DNA represented in binary variations, and hard evidence of the human DNA. Moreover, knowing that it has been 41 years since both Voyager 1 and 2 were launched, the surrounding voices that are present there and much different than the ones we have today, like the invention of cell phones, computers and different industrial innovations. Considering that all of this is going to be stored in a special device (built to endure different conditions that it may face, like temperature, vacuum, and air pressure), like a DVD player, that will consist of a fluorescent "play" button and will have an Artificial Intelligence camera that will enable the device to detect the wavelength range in which the civilization will be able to see, it will play the media stored there according to that range. This device will contain all the information that were stored in the Golden Record and the Arecibo Message, additional new information and it will also contain playable media like: recordings of the Earth and our whole solar system and galaxy, and all the voices that our planets emit. Assuming that the advanced civilization cannot see, the device will play every information in a radio signal. Assuming that they can neither see or hear, the device will play every information converted into vibrations. All of these will be converted based of the Hydrogen atoms ratio, since Hydrogen is present everywhere in the universe.

To do all of this we used the resources provided by NASA for this project, and a lot of other resources from the internet.
