This documentary chronicles the experiences of a Space Apps attendee - how the hackathon has shaped her life and career pursuits, as well as outreach efforts to promote women in STEM.
Background
Years ago, Sarah Hasnain was a college freshman at a women's college in Baltimore, MD. She noticed many of her predecessors giving up on STEM majors in their final year. Many thought that they were not going to be taken seriously in project teams, if they were even lucky enough to get a seat at the table. There was perpetual self-doubt. Others felt that they were not prepared for the fast-paced nature of the tech industry.
Sarah had a vision and wanted to make a change in this approach and attitude for young women towards STEM. She sought opportunities to build confidence, technical, and leadership skills to encourage and support women to pursue their dream careers in STEM.
The International Space Apps Challenge was the answer.
